The Clerk-Treasurer is elected every four years along with the Mayor and the Common Council and can run for re-election as often as desired. The primary function of the Clerk-Treasurer is to serve as the fiscal officer of the City of Berne. The Clerk-Treasurer processes the receipts and on order of the approving body( Council) ;expenditures of all City money, prescribes the payroll for the City; determines the manner in which vendors, officers and employees are paid; manages the City financial accounts; makes all investments on behalf of the City; prepares the budget estimates of revenue, financial statements and the proposed tax rate and retains custody of official records and books of the City.
Gwen Maller (R)
Gwen Maller is the Clerk-Treasurer for the City serving since 1992. Gwen is a C.P.A and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Ball State University. She is a life-long resident of Berne. Gwen is married to Larry Maller and the parents of 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
Gwen and Larry are active members of Grace Bible Church, where she serves as treasurer, summer children’s teacher, Missions Committee member and various other activities. She also is the treasurer of the Berne Community Development Corporation. Gwen’s hobbies include baking, reading, and fitness activities. As a family they enjoy boating and NASCAR racing.
Gwen counts it a privilege to serve her community as Clerk-Treasurer.
